Yola Maria Tsolis works with tessellation in textiles. She starts with a cloth surface that is pre-organized with a grid, and then folds it to create intricate structures. The grid enables her to mould soft material into strict geometric structures. Their relief-like quality can bring to mind Arabic mosaics. In addition to textile tessellation, she works with similar abstractions and collages in media such as photography, video and sound.
